THE BOOKS

Cadee Brystal was born and raised in a small town in South Dakota. She attended one of the state universities where she received degrees in journalism and agriculture before settling down in a slightly larger town. She describes herself as wife of the same wonderful man for nearly 30 years, mother of young adults, and daughter of aging parents.

Cadee began reading novels for relaxation, and soon friends and family members were urging her to write, rather than read. Before long, characters had formed in her mind and were demanding to be put into writing so other fans of Christian romance could get to know them.

One element of buying Christian fiction or Christian romance books that Cadee finds troublesome is that books are sometimes categorized as Christian when they really shouldn't be. "It is incredibly frustrating to buy a book touted as a Christian romance, only to find that it is littered with bad behavior, worse language, and even sex scenes! Readers will not find that happening in the Lessons of Love in Miller's Bend series," she pledges. Cadee strives to deliver clean, uplifting stories, with Christian messages. But she insists that there must be more to the story than boy-meets-girl. “There has to be substance to the plot. The characters need to grow and develop and the storyline needs to keep the readers alert,” she says.

Wide Open Spaces (book 1)

Shelby Sweetin has moved to Miller's Bend to establish herself as a professional newspaper reporter, and runs smack-dab into trouble in the form of Riley Wheeler. The man with a wicked smile and caramel brown eyes can sure get to Shelby even though she proclaims she has no interest in him. Besides, since uncovering an embezzlement plot, Shelby is fully occupied trying to unravel the mystery of who is behind the crime.
When the criminal starts making threats, and then attacks Shelby, Riley rushes to her aid. But his bad-boy image has Shelby keeping her guard up, until the friendship of the townspeople help her see Riley through her own eyes, rather than that old, worn out image which he had been trying to shed. Together they begin to learn the Lessons of Love in Miller's Bend.

Breaking Free (book 2)

The sparks fly between Andrew Wheeler and Allison McGuire as they work through letting go of the past disappointments and heartaches, and learning their own Lessons of Love in Miller’s Bend.

You’ll become better acquainted with the characters who call Miller’s Bend home. Cheer for them as they deepen their faith and learn to trust, even as they work through the suspense and terror of the kidnapping of their daughters.

Settling Down (book 3)

In Settling Down, you will find yourself rooting for Ashley Nelson and Matt Vander Mear as they learn to be patient and trust in each other.
As in Wide Open Spaces and Breaking Free, you will find characters who are down to earth and genuine. They are neither billionaires nor superstars. They could be your neighbors or your friends. They are imperfect works in progress.
Join Matt as he learns that he can let go of trying to control everything and being responsible for all those he loves. He also learns that some of the lessons life taught him when he was younger were wrong.
Ashley is surprised to learn that her fast-paced life isn’t as fulfilling as it once was. With the help of her friends, she learns the joys of living small and loving fully.

Taking Care (book 4)

Chrissi Gibson has returned from her Chicago adventure. As she tries to keep her life as normal as possible, she finds herself relying more and more on family friend, Tyler Schuster.

Choices, actions and consequences impact the circumstances that lead Tyler to reveal his feelings for Chrissi as he steps in to help her, even as he deals with a potentially devastating secret about his own past.

Join their journey as the two learn some difficult lessons and Tyler realizes that fatherhood has more to do with the heart than with genetics.
